It's really bursting out now and the colour is really deep.

I'm not sure which variety this is but it may be Highland Burgundy Red a pre 1936 tuber from Pennard Plants, Heritage and Heirloom seeds collection. It's certainly rather unusual.

Lisbon memory

A welcome home coffee at Cafe Nero, as A is just back from Moscow. What a surprise when we saw that they are serving Pastei de Nata with the coffee. Not quite as good as as the 'real' thing in Belém but it brought back memories.

This is what it reminded us of.

Amaryllis going strong

A few of weeks ago some friends came for dinner and presented me with an amaryllis bulb. Like all bulbs it had the appearance of an onion - rather dry and with a papery covering. I didn't plant it immediately as I seemed to have no time, but now it's been growing for a couple of weeks and it has shot up, pushing out two juicy buds on sturdy stems and looking very healthy. I am keeping my fingers crossed that a) It doesn't 'over do it '; or b) I don't kill it off by neglect or over-indulgence. Let's hope I can post some more on the progress of the amaryllis.
