KP Day 22

It has been so busy today. The new fridge arrived and James and Iwaldson have managed to get it in along with putting in more of the cupboards and installing the cooker and microwave. The kitchen looks nearly finished, but this is pretty much the end of the blow by blow blogging as we are off on holiday and James assures us it will be finished by the time we get back. We're keeping our fingers crossed for a wonderful surprise on our return - a house empty of workmen and the projects complete. Then all we will need to do is decorate the living room and we will be ready for visitors!

The Fireplace

Just a small interlude in our otherwise chaotic life - we had the fireplace changed today!

The Fireplace Shop came and took away the (to us) nasty plastic affair and put in this more elegant letterbox fireplace with its pebbles, reflective interior and picture frame surround. Its got a remote control to increase and decrease the size of flame. No, its not quite finished! We still need to get this wall skimmed, but all that can be done when the living room gets decorated.

KP Day 16

Nick came and reduced the 'raspberry ripple' effect by plastering the ceilings. The double skin is in place around the steel - leaving a space for the inspector to check we've done it properly.

KP Day 15

After lots of long hard hours this week, the kitchen is really looking like a room. The steel is covered in fire resistant plaster board; and the ceiling, too. Nick the plasterer comes on Monday to do the ceilings, while James goes to hospital with his wife to have their baby ( by ceasarian).

The picture on the right is the new downstairs loo. Now a separate room with its own walls and a door to come.

BP Day 48

Wow! How about that floor. Doesn't it look great. Still can't move back, but it is beginning to feel very good.

KP Day 13

The tiles have gone, hurrah!! The electrics are all tidied up as the council inspector will come tomorrow to inspect the steel. All should be OK, but we will be keeping our fingers crossed.

PS to week 9

The Poles have returned and have been doing a grand job on the painting in the master 'suite'. They were also fantastically helpful as we moved our stuff back in the pouring rain. Why does it always rain on moving day!
Paul the Tiler has done his knee in, so we also have a substitute tiler from Poland. He's doing a grand job, too.

BP Day 43 KP Day 8

Such strides forward and just as well as we moved back last night. We put our bed in the room where the twin beds were - with the green shower! Unfortunately there are no doors anywhere up there, which makes using the loo very interesting! But you can see our new wood floors have been laid up there and it is all looking so good. James has a few things to finish in the new shower room for everything to be complete. We have been doing a bit of cleaning, and with a bit of hard work (more!!) we can get things well organised.

The master 'suite' is also making good progress with the dressing room ready to receive its cupboards, which we hope will come tomorrow - should have been today but somehow David didn't get round to it. He will hopefully also bring some more of the sanitary ware so the bathroom and guest loo can also be fininshed off. By the middle of next week James reckons we can get the floors done on the middle floor, too. Hurrah for that!

In the kitchen, our sparks, Phil has been very busy moving the fuse box on to the back wall where it will be on the top shelf in one of the wall cupboards. The kitchen floor tiles are almost all laid - and they look great, reflecting lots of light into the room. The biggest difference is that the downstairs loo has disappeared! The floor in there has been levelled, ready for the new wall and then we can see the two new rooms properly. We just need the old kitchen to leave the premises to give us all a bit of space. We can't even get into the dining room where our kettle and the crockery is. So, we can't even have breakfast here. Today A had b'fast on the way into town and I had lunch! Hopefully when David comes tomorrow he will take the old stuff away and then we will all have a bit more space to work in. And so to bed in our open plan bedroom and cries of 'I'm in the loo' !!

KP Day 5

Yes The Kitchen Project (KP) has restarted as over the last two days Brendan and his team have inserted the steel into the ceiling. We came back from Wales to find this huge space - walls gone; equipment cleared away; a red archway in place. Wires have to be cut and pipes rerouted, but things are moving forward at last. A tremendous effort from everyone over the latter part of this week. Just as well as we move back in next Tuesday.

BP Day 36

The plasterer has been busy at work, now finishing the landing and the guest loo. James is hopeful of getting most of the top two floors finished for the floor people to get in next Monday. The kitchen has been delivered and we will be getting the fridge next week sometime. Can't imagine where its all going to go as the kitchen has taken up the garage and they need some space to work in. We expect the RSJ to go into the kitchen later week, but the old cupboards need to come out and James can't do everything on his own. Where have the Poles gone?

We long to back, but have to be patient. There's quite a long way to go, yet!
