On the lovely island, Bréhat, a pretty sign for a pretty shop.

Here is the emblem of St Malo - an ermine running across the portcullis wearing his ermine cape with its Breton flag symbol. This brass version was set into the road in the walled city. The Breton flag is called Gwen-ha -du which means The Black and White in English.

La Bisquine is a traditional Breton fishing boat that used to dredge for oysters around the Mont St Michel region. Apparently it is similar to a lugger, but this type of fishing has largely died out.

This street has nothing to do with the ormes of North Wales despite the Celtic connections between Brittany and Wales. I was quite excited when I saw the name, knowing the Great and Little Ormes from school days. This is Elm Street, a pleasant pedestrian road that climbs from sea level upwards within the walled city of St Malo.

It appears that le boujaron is the measure of spirits given out to the crew - just like the old tot of rum for British sailors, historically. If anyone knows anything else, please comment!
