This is an Italian guitar made in Venice in 1627 by Giorgio Sellas.
Seen from the front this guitar resembels the familiar Spanish guitar but, unlike the Spanish guitar it has a deeply rounded back, resembling the back of a lute. The back is splendidly inlaid with scrolling tendrils of ivory, sprouting leaves and grotesque heads. Giorgio Sellas and his brother Matteo were instument makers of German origin, based in Venice.
